Living away from the country of my birth, immersing myself in cultures across the globe for weeks, months, and even years, has profoundly shaped my understanding of what it means to be part of the queer community. This extended exposure to diverse ways of life and the challenges faced by queer individuals in different regions has ignited a deeper passion for advocacy within me.

Connecting with queer individuals from across the globe, many of whom navigate life amidst profound peril simply for being themselves, has ignited a fervent passion within me to champion our collective cause. These relationships have enriched my perspective, reinforcing the urgent need for spaces where our community can flourish safely and visibly.

Our mission with IAMICONIQA extends beyond mere representation; it is a clarion call for change. We seek to showcase queer excellence, not as isolated instances of triumph but as a pervasive and enduring reality that defies borders and barriers. By sharing stories of joy, creativity, and resilience, we challenge the oppressive silence and invisibility imposed on our community. This act of visibility is revolutionary, as it confronts and dismantles the cultural, religious, and political structures that seek to erase our presence.

The importance of art and culture in this endeavour cannot be overstated. They are the mediums through which we communicate our identities, our struggles, and our victories. They allow us to connect deeply with others, transcending linguistic and geographical limitations.
